The process of oxidation of fuel components according to the simplified scheme proceeds according to the reactions CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O и С + О2 = СО2.

But the study of the chemistry of these reactions showed that as a result of oxidation of carbon, methane and heavier hydrocarbons formed a number of intermediate compounds, the main of which are СО, Н2, NOx.

2NO2 + 4CO = N2 + 4CO2
